Privacy Policy
Project Engineer ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your information when you use the Project Engineer application, the projectengineer.app website, and related services (the "Service").
1. Information We Collect
We may collect the following categories of information:
Account Information
Email address and display name (if provided), collected when you create an account. This information is required to authenticate you and provide account-level features such as saving results.
User Content
Saved calculation results, input parameters, and design notes (if entered). This data is stored so you can access your work across sessions and devices.
Subscription and Payment Information
When you subscribe to a paid plan, we record your subscription tier, subscription status, billing period dates, and the platform through which the subscription was purchased (Apple App Store, Google Play Store, or Stripe). We do not directly collect, process, or store payment card numbers, bank account details, or other financial instrument data. All payment processing is handled by the Apple App Store, Google Play Store, Stripe, and RevenueCat. We may receive a transaction identifier, subscription status, and entitlement information from these providers for the purpose of managing your access to paid features.
Technical Information
Device type, operating system, basic usage metadata, and authentication tokens. This information helps us maintain compatibility and diagnose technical issues.
Location Data
Some calculators (for example solar, climate, irrigation, and hydrology tools) can use your device's location to localise results. When you choose to use these features, the app requests location permission and obtains your approximate or precise coordinates. Location is used only to perform the calculation you requested — such as retrieving climate or solar data for your area — and may be transmitted to third-party climate or geospatial data services for that purpose. We do not use location for advertising or tracking. You can decline or revoke location permission at any time in your device settings, though some location-based features will then be unavailable.
Uploaded Images
If you submit a sponsorship enquiry, you may choose to upload a logo or image from your device. We access your photo library only when you actively select an image, and uploaded images are stored in our Supabase storage solely to display and process your sponsorship.
Sponsorship Information
If you apply to sponsor a calculator, we collect your company name, contact name, contact email, website, an uploaded logo, and any message you provide. Sponsorship billing is processed by Stripe; we do not store card details. If your sponsorship is approved and active, your company name, logo, and website link are displayed publicly within the app on the sponsored calculator(s).
2. Legal Basis for Processing
We process your personal information on the following legal bases: contractual necessity (to provide the Service, manage your account, and fulfil subscription obligations), legitimate interest (to improve and secure the Service), consent (where you have provided explicit consent, such as creating an account), and legal obligation (where we are required to retain data by law, including financial and tax records related to subscriptions). Where we rely on consent, you may withdraw it at any time by deleting your account or contacting us.
3. How We Use Information
We use collected information to authenticate users, sync saved results across devices, provide account management, provide location-based calculation results when you use location-enabled tools, process and manage subscriptions and entitlements, send transactional emails (such as password reset, account deletion confirmations, and subscription confirmations), improve performance and stability, and respond to support requests. We do not sell personal information.
4. Data Storage and Third-Party Providers
Your data is stored and processed using the following third-party infrastructure and payment providers: Supabase (authentication, database, and file storage), Cloudflare (hosting, content delivery, and security), Resend (transactional email delivery), RevenueCat (subscription management, entitlement verification, and in-app purchase receipt validation), Apple App Store (iOS in-app purchase processing), Google Play Store (Android in-app purchase processing), and Stripe (web payment processing). Each provider maintains its own security and privacy practices. Reasonable technical and organisational safeguards are implemented to protect data. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
5. Data Retention
We retain account data until you delete your account, the account is inactive for an extended period (subject to internal policy), or as required by law. Upon account deletion, associated personal data will be removed from active systems within 30 days, subject to backup retention cycles. Subscription and billing records may be retained for a longer period as required by applicable tax and financial reporting laws. Anonymised or aggregated data that cannot be used to identify you may be retained indefinitely.
6. Data Sharing
We may share data only with infrastructure and payment providers necessary to operate the Service and process subscriptions, if required by law or in response to a valid legal process, or to protect our legal rights or the safety of users. We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information. Subscription status and entitlement data may be shared between RevenueCat, the applicable app store, and our database to ensure accurate access to paid features.
7. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
The Project Engineer mobile application does not use cookies. The projectengineer.app website may use essential cookies required for authentication flows. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking scripts. We do not currently honour Do Not Track browser signals, as there is no industry-wide standard for compliance.
8. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access your personal data, correct inaccurate information, request deletion of your data, request a portable copy of your data, restrict or object to processing, and withdraw consent at any time. You may exercise your right to deletion directly within the app or by contacting us. For other requests, please contact us at the address below and we will respond within 30 days. Please note that deleting your account does not automatically cancel active subscriptions purchased through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store; you must cancel those separately through your device settings.
9. Data Breach Notification
In the event of a data breach that is likely to result in a risk to your rights and freedoms, we will notify affected users by email within 72 hours of becoming aware of the breach, where feasible. We will also notify relevant supervisory authorities as required by applicable law.
10. Automated Decision-Making
The Service does not use automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal effects or similarly significant effects on users. All calculations are performed based on user-supplied inputs and established engineering formulas. Subscription entitlement checks are automated but do not constitute profiling; they simply verify whether your account has an active subscription for access control purposes.
11. Engineering Data Disclaimer
Saved calculations and design inputs remain the responsibility of the user. Project Engineer does not verify the correctness of user-entered data and is not responsible for outcomes derived from stored results.
12. International Users
If you access the Service from outside Australia, you acknowledge that your data may be transferred to and processed in jurisdictions outside your own, including Australia and the United States (where our infrastructure and payment providers operate). We take reasonable steps to ensure your data is treated securely and in accordance with this policy regardless of where it is processed.
13. California Residents (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect and how it is used, request deletion of your personal information, and opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information. To exercise your rights, please contact us at the address below.
14. Updates to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If material changes are made, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you, such as through an in-app notice or an update to the effective date. Continued use of the Service following any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
